Discussions were held on the North-South international transport corridor in Baku 1:36 03.11.2015

On November 2, a meeting was held between Abbas Haj Fathaliha, Member of the Board of Railways of IRI and Chairman of the “Azerbaijan Railways” Closed Joint-Stock Company, Cavid Gurbanov.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC Javid Gurbanov gave detailed information on the projects implemented in Azerbaijan Railways and future perspective tasks.

J. Gurbanov later stated that North-South international transport corridor connects Northern Europe with South-East Asia. The forecasts show that if the North-South transport corridor operates fully, the North-South transport corridor will create conditions for the access of European countries, Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus regions to the Persian Gulf and India, the intensification of trade relations between Caspian littoral states and the Black Sea ports. This corridor will enable to increase  revenues derived from the railway, both domestic and transit traffic between Europe and South Asia - the Middle East.

At the meeting, discussions were held on the North-South international transport corridor. It was noted that at the first stage the improvement of the design of the bridge over Astarachay, the determination of financial sources of the Rasht-Astara line and other technical issues were discussed.

Later, Abbas Haj Fathaliha, member of the Iranian Railways Board, stated that North-South international transport corridor will contribute to expanding economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran.

It was decided to further expand the bilateral cooperation and to continue discussions on the issue.
