A meeting has been held at the Seoul office of Korean National Railroad Corporation Korail between Azerbaijan Railways’ chairman Javid Gurbanov and KORAIL’s president Son Byong Sok.
At the meeting attended by broad representative delegations, Son Byong Sok delivered a speech in which he expressed the gratitude to Javid Gurbanov for his support of Korean National Railroad Corporation’s membership in the Organization for Cooperation of Railways and participation in XXXIV Conference of OSJD Directors General.
During the bilateral meeting Javid Gurbanov spoke about the transport and logistics potential of Azerbaijan and reforms carried out on the country's railway lines, provided detailed information about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, the North-South and South-West transport corridors, and Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Speaking about the Trans-Caspian Transport Route (Middle Corridor), Javid Gurbanov stated that this corridor ensures transportation of cargoes from China to Europe and in the opposite direction. He also added that one of the most important achievements in improving the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor was the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. As an integral part of the Middle Corridor, BTK railway is the shortest route between China and Europe. According to Javid Gurbanov’s words, Korea’s state-owned railroad operator could consider an opportunity of joining the Middle Corridor project in order to carry out regular cargo transportation to Europe, using the extensive terminal facilities of the ports of Lianyungang and Busan.
Issues of broadening bilateral relations have also been discussed at the meeting.
In the framework of the visit to Korea Azerbaijani delegation also got acquainted with the operation of Busan sea port.
